Schools and Workplaces

Two important sites in the community where a death can greatly impact everyone else in that environment are schools and workplaces. Point of Hope staff professionals are equipped to provide services:

  • to prepare for an imminent death
  • to respond to crises and address unexpected death(s)

Point of Hope staff was on the forefront of efforts to provide counseling, consultation, and support to schools trying to cope with tragedies. For example, after the September 11, 2001 attacks, Point of Hope grief experts:

  • offered support to children in the schools
  • offered support to the greater community through quotes in newspaper and magazine articles, and interviews on local and national radio and television broadcasts

Point of Hope professionals are recognized experts on providing comfort and practical advice about handling grief and loss.

 

Services we provide for schools

Some of the specific services offered to schools by Point of Hope include:

  • Training programs, including workshops, seminars, and retreats for school counselors, psychologists, and social workers in grief and loss
  • Programs for parents' groups
  • Consultation to schools who have experienced a death of a staff person, pupil, or pupil's family member
  • Consultation to school professionals on how to develop a grief education and support program

 

Services we provide for workplaces

When grief permeatesthe workplace it frequently impacts productivit. Grief can create a sense of helplessness among co-workers who are trying to find a way to help the grieving person return to work.

Unfortunately, workplaces also experience the death of a valued staff member. Professional assistance by experienced counselors is available through the Point of Hope Grief Counseling Center to enable a business owner and staff coping with a loss to continue to be productive.

Grief in the Workplace Services include:

  • Counseling services, both group and individual
  • Consultation to supervisors, human resources staff, and Employee Assistance Programs on staff support
  • Training Services for human resources personnel
  • Wellness programs for workplaces to address stress, loss, transition
  • Complementary therapies such as yoga, music therapy, and guided imagery
