Grief and Loss Services

Services for professionals

Doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, social workers, chaplains, therapists, and support/administrative staff who work with the chronically ill, dying, frail elderly, bereaved, and otherwise vulnerable populations are compassionate professionals who are constantly exposed to others' pain and sadness. Over time the stresses presented by the nature of their work may create compassion fatigue.

The Point of Hope Grief Counseling Center staff has provided hundreds of specially-tailored programs to health care professionals in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, physician's offices, and other health care settings.

In addition, Point of Hope has presented education and other support programs to mental health professionals in social service agencies, group practices, and other practice environments who are facing ongoing loss issues with their clients.

Programs are developed to address the unique needs of the participants. The following list is an example of some of the programs that have been presented:

  • Education in Grief and Loss
  • Support groups for professional staff
  • Wellness programs to cope with stress, loss, grief, and/or transition
  • De-briefings and ongoing counseling following a traumatic event
  • Seminars on recognition and prevention of compassion fatigue
